Life is uneventful on Frank and Emma’s Wisconsin dairy farm—until the arrival of a former government colleague of Frank’s: Haynes is jumpy and cryptic and doesn’t want anyone to know he’s a “guest” in their basement. By the time the dark-suited and ominously amiable Welch shows up, peddling patriotic paraphernalia and asking too many questions about the basement, the couple’s bucolic tranquility begins to unravel beyond repair.
